Visions (1014)

Visions should capture demand that will remain relatively unchanged over a period of time. To allow time to build competence in the long term, the target demand should be strong and large in scale.

The Maslow’s hierarchy of Needs identifies a few areas of strong and unchanging demand. On the other hand, preferences like the favorite ice cream flavor, popular game title, and fashion of the year tend to be more temporary or not-so-strong in demand.

As examples, communication and mobility are strong needs of many people. Communication, especially between those in close relationship, can affect behavior strongly. Mobility refers to the physical movement between locations. This requirement, along with the capacities that allow the movement, is basic for health and living.
